Lab Manager: Cindy Hamon-Hill

Cindy runs the day-to-day operations of the lab. In many cases, trainees should direct communications to the lab manager rather than Aaron. This includes questions about lab equipment, training on equipment, volunteer assistance, requests to order supplies or equipment, concerns about infrastructure (e.g., lab facilities, equipment not working). The same norms of communication specified in this document apply to the lab manager as to Aaron.

The Lab Manager's duties include:

  • Managing lab volunteers. This includes recruiting and vetting volunteers, recommending volunteers to researchers on a case-appropriate basis, organizing training materials on Basecamp, as well as monitoring volunteers' progress both in training and activites for NCIL.

  • Managing lab staff which includes, but not exclusively, administration of HR paperwork, including payroll forms, timesheets and security access as well as direct managment of summer research fellowships, such as NSERC USRAs.

  • General Administration covers a range of activities, including management of petty cash and lab expenses, cheque requisitions, travel claims, some monitoring of lab accounts and communication regarding lab events & activities.

  • Supervising some undergraduate research, such as independent studies and honours theses.

  • Maintaining lab equipment. Any problems with equipment should be reported to the lab manager. Similarly, if you notice when supplies are low, for data collection or office equipment, please inform the lab manager.

  • Training new students on lab practices and lab equipment.

  • Ensuring research ethics compliance, including submitting annual reports for each project, assisting researchers with amendments, changes in personnel, and ensuring volunteers' and researchers's TCPS-2 certificates are on file.

  • Assisting with some research projects, including data collection and analysis
