Before Each Participant Arrives

Every experiment requires some preparation (e.g., study materials), and adequate time to ensure you are ready when the participant arrives, not flustered and able to interact professinoally with the participant, and that you follow the study's Research Protocol.

For these reasons, you should always arrive at the lab well before your participant, and ensure everything is ready. This may include the following:

  • Anonymous participant ID code is assigned to the participant, and written on study materials (except the Consent Form)

  • Consent Form printed and ready.

  • Any questionnaires or other "paper and pencil" tests/forms are printed and organized, and placed where you need them. A great approach is to put all printed materials in a file folder so they're handy and kept together both before and after the participant completes them.

  • If participant is to be paid, that you have the necessary payment in cash on hand, and a blank receipt ready.

  • Your study's Research Protocol is open and readily available for reference.

  • Stimulus program is ready to run.

  • If an EEG study, all necessary EEG materials (e.g., caps, gel, NuPrep, rubbing alcohol, pads, tissue, syringes) are laid out where you need them.
