Response Times

Please allow at least 24 hours for me to respond to any communication, and do not expect replies on weekends or holidays (except for urgent communications). I will allow a similar minimum response time from trainees. It is rude to send an email, then in less than 24 hours send a followup text, Basecamp message, and/or email to ask for a reply. If you are uncertain about whether something worked, it is fine to send an "FYI" followup by some other medium to ensure that the recipient received it (e.g., an email saying "I sent you X via Basecamp and just wanted to ensure that it went through"), as long as you are not expecting a response to either in <24 hours.

All email/Basecamp/text communication should be treated as temporally asynchronous. That is to say, the time that one person sends a communication is simply the time that they are actively working, but the minimum 24 hour response time applies. So, the fact that you may receive an email at midnight does not carry with it any expectation of an immediate response, nor any implications about expectations concerning when, or how much, the recipient works.
